Control Room Supervisor

Northeast
US Navy, O-3

I served as a submarine division officer aboard the USS Parche and left the Navy at the end of 2006. As I was preparing to leave the Navy, I did a brief job search and then decided to continue graduate school. I recommenced my job search in 2008. I originally heard about Orion International when I was first preparing to leave the Navy, however I did not search with them until my recent job search. I heard through a friend how pleased he was with his work with Orion.

I worked with two different recruiters at Orion. I worked with Mike Wood in my search for jobs in the nuclear power industry and worked with JP Sniffen and his team on my parallel job search on the West Coast for non-power related positions. I was thoroughly satisfied with my experience with both recruiters. They definitely made sure they understood what I was looking for and worked to arrange opportunities that met those needs and desires.

I worked with both conference and non-conference opportunities. I attended a conference in Seattle, which was loaded with great opportunities, and I received a lot of interest from the companies I spoke to at the conference. While I ultimately did not pursue any of the leads at this conference, the conference itself was top-notch. I also traveled for non-conference interviews for power jobs here in the northeast.

The Orion conference was far superior to other ones that I attended. Far too often the competition wanted to get me to "settle" for jobs that I did not want in places that I did not want. Orion was much more interested in finding a fit for what I wanted. They did not just try to squeeze me into the opportunities that they happened to have on hand. They were genuinely interested in finding me desirable positions, both in the industries and in the geographic areas that I wanted.

I will be entering the nuclear SRO licensing program, and, upon completion, will ultimately work as a control room supervisor at a nuclear power plant. This is one of the jobs that I was pursuing. I am very satisfied with the job Orion did and was very pleased with my experience. I will recommend Orion to any of my colleagues that are looking to make this transition.
