I had been an Army Aviation Officer for over 10 years and made the difficult decision to transition out of the military to spend more time with our growing family.  With that decision made, it was time to find a job and start a new career.  I had heard of military career placement firms but was a little skeptical of using them, as I thought there would be some hidden fees as the process preceded. I decided to look into them since I didn’t really have any other game plan and wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do next.

Both my and my wife’s families were in Ohio and that is where we both grew up, so getting back to Ohio was a priority for me as the place to start the next adventure.  I was getting a little distraught when some placement firms were unable to locate a job in Ohio for me to interview with, and I wasn’t getting anywhere with my own personal search either.  That quickly changed when I called Orion International and talked to Todd Phillips, one of the Recruiting Managers.  He assured me that he would be able to match my profile up with quality companies in Ohio and get me in front of them to interview, plus their services were completely free to me and there was no contract that I had to sign.

As I prepared for an Orion International Hiring Conference in Cincinnati, OH, Orion helped me through the process.  I worked closely with Joshua Williamson, a Candidate Recruiter, who helped answer my questions and even conducted a mock interview with me to help go through interview questions that often trip people up.  Being able to actually talk through the questions with someone of Josh’s experience was much better than just going through questions in my head and truly prepared me.  I also took advantage of the Webinars that Orion holds, focused on preparing candidates for transition, which made me more comfortable with what lay ahead.

Todd delivered and I was set up to interview with six companies with positions in Ohio during the Hiring Conference.  The interviews went great and I received a tentative offer before I even boarded the plane to fly back home that night.  Orion followed up with me the next day and said that five of the six companies were interested in me.  Within the next week, I had two onsite visits scheduled and received job offers from both.  I accepted one of the offers and had a start to a new career before I even started my first day of transition leave.

I can’t thank Orion enough, especially Todd and Joshua, for truly caring and giving me their personal attention to make sure I was ready to successfully interview with companies and for being willing to find job opportunities that fit my priorities.  Going from not having any job prospects to accepting a job offer within two weeks was all thanks to the services that Orion International provides.
