Job Overview:

Continental Tide is seeking an experienced and skilled Shipfitter for our Norfolk, VA office. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repair, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in structural fitting, blueprint reading, and fabrication work in a shipyard environment. Candidates must be safety-conscious, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Essential Duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Utilize knowledge, skills, and abilities to assemble, modify, lay out, fabricate, repair, and install plates, shapes, and/or pipe as part of a structural assembly in ship alteration and repair.
  • Lay out, position, align, and fit structural metal parts according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal parts using tools such as welding equipment, torches, grinders, and cutting tools.
  • Interpret ship construction drawings and technical specifications to guide fabrication and installation.
  • Perform tack welding and assist certified welders as needed, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up of structural components per project requirements.
  • Inspect completed assemblies to ensure conformance to specifications and adherence to safety and environmental compliance standards.
  • Employ appropriate trade methods to ensure watertight integrity on metal hulls, including precise fitting and securing of components.
  • Manufacture and install interior and exterior structural items, such as bulkheads, foundations, and framing systems.
  • Repair, remove, and/or replace damaged ship structures and fittings, creating structural welds and fittings as needed.
  • Manufacture and install parts and assemblies from templates, ensuring accuracy and fit.
  • Prepare surfaces for welding, burning, and riveting; lay out holes for drilling using various hand, electric, and pneumatic tools.
  • Measure and verify dimensions using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
  • Coordinate and arrange for the work of multiple trades based on technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, and written or oral instructions.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5-8 years of marine or industrial ship fitting experience required

This program is the entry point to a world-class field service organization. Position Description
As an Electrician, your responsibilities will include:
• Maintain electrical systems for all production and facilities equipment in the plant.
• Work as part of a team to ensure that all preventative and corrective maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
• Work with engineers and other employees to develop new processes to make the facility more efficient.
• This position requires that you work in a steel plant environment, which can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

Position Requirements
• From a technical perspective, must be able to demonstrate good electrical systems troubleshooting and repair skills, as well as a strong working knowledge of such electrical test equipment as multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes, and clamp-on ammeters.
• Demonstrated history of safe work practices and the ability to work with minimal direction.
• Be prepared to demonstrate the ability to interpret drawings for repair, installation and maintenance of complex electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and equipment.
• Experience with AC and DC drives (ABB Drives experience a plus), medium and low voltage switchgear, transformers, PLCs, and computers is expected.
• Extensive electrical and electro-mechanical knowledge to repair the wide variety of equipment in the plant, and great mechanical aptitude as well.
• Help drive continuous improvements in production tracking, process efficiency, and plant automation.

The Commissioning Technician / Specialist provides technical support throughout the full commissioning lifecycle of mission-critical facilities. This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing commissioning activities, supporting design reviews, and performing functional testing of complex electrical and mechanical systems.
This position requires close collaboration with engineers, contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders and involves working in live, mission-critical environments such as data centers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspection, validation, testing, and verification of electrical and mechanical equipment (approximately 50%)
  • Develop commissioning and testing plans and procedures (approximately 20%)
  • Review construction design documents, specifications, and drawings (approximately 15%)
  • Produce detailed technical reports, documentation, and commissioning deliverables (approximately 15%)

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
  • Navy Nuclear-trained Technicians (E4–E6) or Officers (O2–O3) with 6–10 years of service from surface ships or submarines
  • Skilled conventional Navy Electronics Technicians (ET) or Machinist’s Mates (MM) may also be considered
  • Strong technical aptitude and troubleshooting background
