Continental Tide is searching for skilled Marine Electricians III for our Fleet Services for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repairs, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.

Essential duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment.
  • Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
  • Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications
  • Assembles multi-pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
  • Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapting standard equipment and troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions.
  • Performing component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost effective recommendation for completing repairs. Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments. Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
  • Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
  • Inspects and tests electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devices
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
  • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.

Experience and Skills:

Requirements include:

  • *******Must be Copper Connector Certified & possess fiber optic experience*******
  • Technical expertise with power generation and transmission equipment, motorized valve actuators, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics and integrated network system experience
  • Possess a minimum of seven (7) years of practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.
  • Possess possess NAVSEA Cableway and Connectorization Certifications.
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED or industrial school certificate.

  • Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance and must be able to obtain DBIDS and be able to access local shipyards and US Navy bases.

  • Candidate must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat and twist
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.

  • Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.

  • Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.

  • Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
