Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.

Properly select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines. Must be able to improvise setups using common tooling such as risers, angle plates, etc.

Continental Tide is searching for skilled Marine Electricians III for our Fleet Services for our Fleet Services in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repairs, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects.

Essential duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment.
Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications
Assembles multi-pin connectors and fiber optic connections.
Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapting standard equipment and troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions.
Performing component and/or system troubleshooting to diagnose the problem and provide most cost effective recommendation for completing repairs. Perform and/or verify mechanical alignments. Perform on-site field service for system grooms and checkouts, minor repairs and system configuration validation.
Read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
Inspects and tests electrical systems and equipment to locate and diagnose malfunctions, using visual inspections, testing devices
Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc.; processes data, identifying errors or inconsistencies; selects methods of data presentation.
Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.

Experience and Skills:

Requirements include:

*******Must be Copper Connector Certified & possess fiber optic experience*******
Technical expertise with power generation and transmission equipment, motorized valve actuators, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fiber optics and integrated network system experience
Possess a minimum of seven (7) years of practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.
Possess possess NAVSEA Cableway and Connectorization Certifications.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma, GED or industrial school certificate.
Setting up, checking, and correcting operational and experimental electrical machinery, circuitry, and equipment while adhering to pre-established guidelines and engineering specifications.
Will read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints.
Repair and replace cables and connectors.
Work involves participating in the installation and maintenance of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, and alarm circuits.
Applicant must be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
Must have or have the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance and must be able to obtain DBIDS and be able to access local shipyards and US Navy bases.
Must possess basic hand tools.
Candidate must be able to walk, stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat and twist
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.
Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
May require wearing a respirator.
Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Preferred qualifications:

Certified in 'Multi-pin' Connectors IAW MIL-STD-20035A (SA)*
Certified in Fiber Optic: CFOS/O, CFOS/C, CFOS/S, CFOS/T, CFOS/FC*
Minimum of 7 years' experience as a Marine Electrician with 3 or more years of previous supervisory responsibilities*
Experience with maintaining budgets and material Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and military vessels
Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Item requirements
Currently certified to accomplish wire way inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items
Microsoft Office knowledge is a plus
Identify and make recommendation to shop superintendent regarding problem areas in contract work items
Overhaul A.C. & D.C systems. Power generation, distribution and users
Laying out of wire ways
Pulling and splicing wires
Circuit Labeling
Installation and hook up of lighting fixtures
Circuit testing and troubleshooting
Writing simple purchase requisitions for purchase department
Instructing helpers, apprentices, or less skillful electricians
Take and record motor and generator thrust, clearance, and alignment measures
Ability to identify materials and parts required for job performance
Selection of substitute electrical components
Ability to foresee problems, write reports and give suggestions for solving those issues

Physical Requirements:

Exposure to open-air environments, including noisy, hot, and cold conditions.
Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
Must wear various types of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hearing, eye, head, and hand protection, as required.
Site visits may involve standing on a variety of surfaces and angles, bending, crouching, and climbing over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge or boat structural components.
Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
Must possess sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision to inspect marine components and systems, identify defects or irregularities, and safely operate tools and equipment.
May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work, including sitting and/or standing.
May be required to operate machinery, power tools, and/or heavy equipment.
Must be able to communicate effectively to exchange and comprehend information.
Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, including high heat and extreme cold.
Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. or more, depending on the task requirements.

Job Description

The Mechanical Assembly Technician will utilize Bills of Materials (BOMs) to gather, identify, and assemble mechanical components into subassemblies and final products in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret assembly instructions, specifications, BOMs, and part lists.
Gather required parts, subassemblies, materials, and tools for assigned builds.
Assemble mechanical and linkage components according to drawings, diagrams, and samples.
Verify compliance by identifying and measuring components and checking part accuracy.
Operate hand tools and power tools, including drill presses and torque wrenches.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area while following all safety procedures.
Report errors, discrepancies, or issues to a supervisor.
Provide suggestions to improve assembly processes and product quality.

Required Experience & Qualifications

Mechanical linkage assembly experience.
Ability to identify and count components using part descriptions and measurements.
Proficient in the use of measuring tools (tape measure, gauges, etc.).
Experience in a production/manufacturing environment using hand and power tools.
Excellent manual dexterity and ability to perform precise mechanical work.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 75 lbs.
Willingness to learn and operate assigned machinery and equipment.
Ability to follow PPE requirements (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, gloves, etc.).
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
