Position Description:
  • We are seeking an experienced
    maintenance technician that will be responsible for performing routine
    inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on building systems and
    equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing components, to ensure
    the proper functioning and safety of a facility, often responding to emergency
    repairs as needed; their duties may include troubleshooting issues,
    replacing parts, and coordinating with outside contractors when
    necessary. 

Essential Duties
& Responsibilities:

  • Follow all safety
    and company policies, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately;
    must complete online safety training each month as assigned
  •   Regular and
    predictable attendance
  •   Analyze,
    trouble-shoot, and repair mechanical problems of plant machinery.
  • Perform maintenance
    function and troubleshoot to correct inefficiencies and prevent equipment
    downtime by completing regular PM’s
  • Work within
    specifications and drawings, responsible for ensuring completion, minimizing
    waste within set dates and times
  • Ensure the
    maintenance and preventive maintenance of corrugating plant process equipment
    to achieve world class results; ensure all equipment is running properly and
    meets operational requirement.
  • Work with
    maintenance crew to carry out maintenance and repair projects in mechanical,
    fabrication, plumbing, welding functions.
  • Other corrective and
    preventive maintenance duties to be assigned by the supervisor from time to
    time.

The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repair, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. Essential Duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Utilize knowledge, skills, and abilities to assemble, modify, lay out, fabricate, repair, and install plates, shapes, and/or pipe as part of a structural assembly in ship alteration and repair.
  • Lay out, position, align, and fit structural metal parts according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal parts using tools such as welding equipment, torches, grinders, and cutting tools.
  • Interpret ship construction drawings and technical specifications to guide fabrication and installation.
  • Perform tack welding and assist certified welders as needed, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up of structural components per project requirements.
  • Inspect completed assemblies to ensure conformance to specifications and adherence to safety and environmental compliance standards.
  • Employ appropriate trade methods to ensure watertight integrity on metal hulls, including precise fitting and securing of components.
  • Manufacture and install interior and exterior structural items, such as bulkheads, foundations, and framing systems.

  • Manufacture and install parts and assemblies from templates, ensuring accuracy and fit.
  • Prepare surfaces for welding, burning, and riveting; lay out holes for drilling using various hand, electric, and pneumatic tools.
  • Measure and verify dimensions using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
  • Coordinate and arrange for the work of multiple trades based on technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, and written or oral instructions.

Experience and Skills:

Job Overview:

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing shipboard mechanical system maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair. This position involves working in a dynamic maritime environment aboard U.S. Navy and other military vessels.

Essential duties & responsibilities includes, but in not limited to the following:

  • Perform operational, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of shipboard mechanical systems across multiple platforms.
  • Perform diagnostic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on shipboard systems to identify faults, restore functionality, and ensure long-term performance.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications.
  • Install and test shipboard mechanical systems including piping, pumps, valves, hydraulics, and rotating machinery.
  • Conduct system testing, calibration, and support commissioning of equipment and systems.
  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of production methods and maintenance protocols to ensure quality and performance compliance.
  • Accurately document and report maintenance and repair activities using quality assurance records and provide technical briefs to supervisors and clients.
  • Train and mentor coworkers and customers on equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff, welders, electricians, and technical teams to execute multi-discipline projects.

Marine Electrician I

Continental Tide has an need for a Marine Electrician I who will be a key support to our Fleet Services Group. The location of this position is in Norfolk, VA. The Marine Electrician will be responsible for supporting shipboard operations by leveraging practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.

Essential duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Practical shipboard experience with HM&E systems and equipment.

  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

Experienced Steel Fitter

St Johns Ship Building, Inc. is a full-service shipbuilding and marine repair company that specializes in new construction and repair of commercial aluminum and steel vessels. Operations are conducted in a storm-protected 100-acre inland campus in the city of Palatka just 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville on the St. Johns River that provides direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. Position Summary
As an Experienced Steel Fitter this person will fabricate, lay out, position, align, and fit parts of steel products. Which includes fitting steel components for either repair or new builds to specifications, and within scope of the project. Responsible for fitting and assembling various steel structures according to blueprints and specifications while maintaining high safety and quality standards.


Responsibilities
  • Position, align, fit parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Tack-weld fitted parts together.
  • Lay out and examine Aluminum stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
  • Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
  • Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
  • Smooth work piece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves.
  • Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
  • Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers.
  • Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with weld.
  • Lift or move materials and finished products, using large cranes.
  • Heat-treat parts, using acetylene torches.
  • Preheat work pieces to make them malleable, using hand torches or furnaces.
  • Install boilers, containers, and other structures.
  • Erect ladders and scaffolding to fit together large assemblies.
  • And miscellaneous duties may be required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years' experience
  • Must pass AWS certification within the first 60 days on the job
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
