Project Manager

West
US Marine Corps, O-3

I first heard about Orion at a program on Camp Pendleton called OUT (Officers Under Twenty), which focused on military officers that were not retiring from the military, but wanted to seek civilian employment.

When I first hooked up with Orion, I was still about six or seven months away from my EAS. We discussed my background, my goals, and what I was looking for in a post-military career. I was still a good ways away from my EAS, but each month I received a phone call from Orion to follow up, check-in, and get an update on me and if anything had changed, etc.

When I was closer to transitioning I attended two hiring conferences, one in San Diego and one in Chicago, where I had six interviews. One of those interviews was with Kroger, who extended me an offer that I accepted.

Now I am back home in the South, with a career that I love, and a company that is great for me and my family.  Had it not been for the persistence and dedication of Tim Duba and Todd Phillips, I would not be where I am today. Tim saw the perfect position for me and would not give up. We persevered, and I got the position I wanted, in the location that I desired.

The parallels between my military job and current career are uncanny. I am essentially doing the same job, but in a much more conducive environment. The intrapersonal communication, management, and leadership that I learned and exhibited in the military have translated seamlessly into the corporate world. I am confident in my new job.

Orion was interested in my own success and treated me with respect and dignity. I was a real person with real desires, not just another number in the system. Orion genuinely cared about me, both personally and professionally, and ensured that I was prepared and confident throughout this very stressful process. They were always easy to reach, and they constantly stayed in contact with me about all my possibilities and options. The Orion team was easy to talk to and explained everything with a very personable attitude and easy to understand directive. Thank you!
