Technical Sales Representative

West
US Marine Corps, O-3

The Orion hiring conference I attended was a terrific opportunity and was very well-planned. When it came time to attend the conference, I knew a lot about the companies I would be interviewing with, and they had an incredible amount of information about me.  I had four interviews in a matter of hours, received one offer on the spot, and also got feedback from my recruiter on the other interviews.  From there, I had a series of follow-on conversations with the Orion staff and the companies that I interviewed with.

I am a Technical Sales Representative with the Houston Wire and Cable Company.  There are more parallels than one might originally think.  A lot of what I do is still driven by intelligence work.  There is always more work for me to do, and my work is very rewarding.  I conduct my days with very little supervision, and my results are evaluated just like they were in the Marines.

I learned a lot of relevant business skills in the Marine Corps.  I was very well prepared for the interacting and public speaking that I do in my current position.  I was also very well prepared for the report writing. I learned to master decentralized communication and computer skills.  I also learned to analyze information, provide guidance, and work as a team player.  The work ethic that I learned as a Marine has been a great asset.

Mike Wood was my recruiter, and he's an all-around great guy.  Mike was very professional, yet personable. It sounds cliché, but keep up the good work!  Thank you very much for the service that you provide to transitioning veterans.  And thank you to the corporations that have chosen to hire a veteran.  I can't thank you enough!
