  • How to Weather the Trade Wars

In his most recent article, “How to Not Become a Trade War Casualty,” for Recruiting Daily, Mike Starich, CEO of Orion Talent, explores how companies can create a good contingency plan to maintain control and minimize risk amidst tariff talks. Mike advises that, although the tariff talks may ultimately be a negotiating tactic, having a Plan B is the best way forward.

He lists three ideas employers should consider when devising their plan:

 - New life for steel and aluminum manufacturers: Recruiters inside steel companies need to fire up all of their resources, as the revitalized industry requires more workers.

 - Downstream industries face supply chain disruption: Recruiters in downstream industries will likely be dealing with job loss typically associated with rising production costs and should focus on finding experienced players for “backfill” or attrition-related openings.

 - Shipping and distribution feel the squeeze: Wherever possible, shift your support to industries that have previously been under-serviced.

Ultimately, Mike explains that the only certainty is turbulence. The best plan, he writes, is to try to keep your team positioned advantageously. Read more about Mike’s trade war tips in the full article here.
