Just Launched: Orion's Field Service Careers Site
Field Service careers span many industries including manufacturing, high tech, energy, medical equipment and more. While job responsibilities vary by industry, those working in Field Service roles are typically responsible for installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on various types of equipment at customer locations.
Because Orion is constantly recruiting for careers in Field Service, we’ve recently launched a Field Service Careers site to serve as a resource for those interested in learning more and pursuing a career in this field. The site includes valuable insight into the requirements and benefits of Field Service positions, as well as companies that are hiring for these roles. While you’re browsing the site, make sure you check out our “Careers in Field Service for Veterans” podcast featuring Todd Hecht, an Orion Recruiter specializing in Field Service roles.
Field Service careers require customer service skills, willingness to travel, as well as the ability to work independently. Ideal candidates will have strong electronic-mechanical aptitude from their time in the military, and experience related to the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electronic and mechanical systems. A career in Field Service offers many benefits beyond the standard health insurance and 401k. Many of the companies we work with offer a company car or car allowance, a laptop, cell phone, and a company credit card. Field Service roles also allow you to work independently, meet a variety of people, and get paid to travel and gain travel miles or rewards for personal use.
Here are some of the most common types of positions within Field Service that we typically recruit for:
FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN
As a Field Service Technician, you will perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repair activities on customer equipment.
FIELD SERVICE SPECIALIST
As a Field Service Specialist, you will provide professional service and support for customers by performing field service installation, startup, repairs and maintenance.
FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER
In a Field Service Engineer role, you will be responsible for quality machine installation and maintenance service of complex electro-mechanical systems; analytical troubleshooting of technical problems to component level; and performing complete installation, maintenance services, and technical reporting.
FIELD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE
Field Service Representatives travel to facilities within a given territory/metro area/region and diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform basic repairs on customer equipment.
Orion works with some of the world’s leading companies that hire military talent for Field Service positions, including Siemens, Ingersoll Rand, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, GE, and Stryker. Check out our newly launched Field Service Careers website to learn more.

PODCAST: Careers for Veterans with Service Experts
Orion is currently recruiting former and transitioning service members for a variety of careers with Service Experts across 90+ locations nationwide. Locations include Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Denver, Raleigh, Dallas, Nashville and many more.
Service Experts offers the close-knit environment of a local, independently-owned company, along with the outstanding benefits, training and stability of the industry's leading name. To attract and retain the best people in the business, Service Experts provides competitive pay, excellent benefits, opportunity for growth, and world class training.
Richard Everhart, Army Veteran and Operations Manager at Service Experts, joins Orion’s “From the Battlefield to the Boardroom” podcast to discuss his career progression with Service Experts, why Service Experts is a great place for veterans to work and similarities between the company and the military.
Richard, who has been with Service Experts for more than 4 years, initially didn’t know if this career would be a good fit for him. “As a former artilleryman, I wondered what I could do when I got out of the military. I never really put two and two together until I started working here and realized that there are so many other things that you learn in the military that directly correlate to business,” Richard says.
Service Experts strives to provide an environment where employees can work, learn, grow and thrive. The company offers career progression opportunities to all employees who possess the attitude and commitment it takes to be the best. Richard was hired as an entry-level Maintenance Technician and progressed to a higher level Maintenance Technician role after a few months. Within a year he was promoted to a Field Supervisor and now serves as Operations Manager. “How did I do that? Hard work. The things I learned in the military: hard work, dedication, discipline and leadership. All of those are things I thought I was losing when I got out of the military, but they directly apply here too. Service Experts is a perfect fit for someone coming out of the military,” he explains.
