Orion Proud to Participate in the Serving Our Soldiers 5k Fundraiser

Saturday, April 23rd, was a great day to raise money for our troops and veterans! That morning, employees and family members from our Raleigh Orion office participated in a 5K race hosted by Serving Our Soldiers. The proceeds from the 5K went to purchasing and shipping care packages to three adopted platoons deployed in Afghanistan. They also went into a fund for a scholarship started this year that will provide financial assistance to a veteran who wishes to go back to school.

Founded by two teenagers, Serving Our Soldiers (SOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing support for our troops and veterans. Its founders, Caroline and Clare, started the organization because they felt that Americans, particularly teenagers and young adults, don't provide enough support for servicemen and women. SOS has held other fundraisers and events as well, such as thank-you card drives. For more information about SOS, visit its website or Facebook page.

Orion thanks SOS and the volunteers from Ravenscoft School and NC State's ROTC for making this a fun and rewarding event!

Military Transition Survey Results

In January, we conducted a survey of recently transitioned Veterans on topics ranging from their transition experience, career transition resources, using the GI Bill, and much more. We received nearly 2000 responses, and learned some powerful information from this survey that we will be sharing with you over the next several months.

Transition Roadblocks

According to our survey respondents, the Top 2 Transition Roadblocks are "Matching my military experience with civilian jobs", and "Finding a career that met my professional desires." Here at Orion we have a variety of transition resources available to transitioning military. Orion's services go far beyond preparation, and we give you the tools to truly succeed in your transition - job matching with the expertise of our recruiting team, and actual interviews for positions that are a match with your professional desires.

Transition Success

Twice as many Orion hires felt their transition was "very successful", compared with those who found their career via another method. Using Orion to find your career nearly doubles your likelihood of enjoying a "very successful" transition. Our Survey respondents told us that the #1 most important consideration in the transition is Contact with Hiring Managers. Orion puts you directly in front of Hiring Managers specifically seeking military professionals for their open positions.

Transition Mentors

Nearly double the Orion hires vs. those who found their career via a different method cited having a mentor. In most cases, this mentor was their Orion Recruiter. The high touch, mentorship relationship is an important benefit of using Orion, and your recruiter has been in your position before and knows exactly what you are going through. Orion recruiters have an average tenure of 6.5 years - the best average in our industry.

Registering with Orion will give you access to our Recruiting Team so that we can begin to help you through your transition and career search.

Additionally, you should be available to start working within the next four months and be geographically flexible.

Shane Serafin, a former Navy Lieutenant and USNA graduate who found his career through a recent Orion DCC, explains why he feels the event was such a success: "An Orion Distinguished Candidate Conference is something that you don't want to miss. It is a golden opportunity to meet with several prospective employers all at once, all of them very high quality. And Orion prepares you well. I particularly liked the interview prep session during this conference. It helped me to tweak a few of my responses in a manner that paid major dividends during the interviews!"

Orion only holds a few DCCs each year. Click here to be considered for one of the upcoming Orion DCC hiring conferences.

According to Your Peers

"Orion reached out to me and I really liked how they acted as the facilitator for Hiring Conferences. My Orion recruiters were straight shooters, and they knew their customers well enough to identify candidates that Medtronic likes. Overall a good experience and one I will always be grateful for!"- Alan Sanchaz, Sales Education Representative

"My military background gave me a great grasp on leadership skills that Schneider was looking for, where I am a Fleet Manager. My Orion recruiter did an excellent job assisting me through the process and providing thoughtful, timely answers to my questions and concerns. Orion also did a great job helping reveal the skills I had as a Military Officer that would transfer over into a civilian career.

Orion exceeded all my expectations. I anticipated a long and drawn out process. Orion went above and beyond their duties to help me quickly find a career when I needed the help." - James Hernan, Fleet Manager

"I have a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Masters in Organizational Leadership. I was a Captain in the Army, and the leadership and management experience from the military was crucial in preparing me for the industry I entered.

My Orion recruiter did a great job of listening to what I wanted and helping me find positions that suited both my interests and my experience. I also worked with several other members of the Orion team, all of whom were professional and dedicated to helping me find a position.

Orion is by far the most attentive to my needs and wishes. I will definitely be recommending Orion to others I know transitioning from the military!" - Nicki Valentin, Process Engineer

Check out what a former Army Officer had to say about the last Orion Distinguished Candidate Conference:

"The DCC was a much different experience than any job fair I’ve ever been to and I wouldn’t put those two events in the same class at all. Most job fairs can be described as a place where you wait in line to get five minutes to talk to a recruiter about a company, give them a copy of your resume, and repeat. In contrast, the DCC was a chance to get extensive exposure to targeted companies. All said and done, I had about an hour and a half of face time with actual hiring managers from companies I was interested in (and equally important, who were interested in me) throughout the course of the DCC. I had interviewed and received job offers from other companies before the DCC, but the process usually took 2-4 weeks and each had a number of gates I had to navigate. In contrast, I had a firm offer the day I left the DCC. If I had to describe the DCC in one word, it would be “decisive.” – Conrad Brown
