Orion Talent is helping a client hire a Site Safety and Health Officer in Syracuse, NY
Position Description: The SSHO is responsible for the on-site safety and health management as outlined in the project specifications, EM385-1-1 and SAI’s Safety Program. The SSHO reports to the Project Superintendent and Quality Control Manager, however, has the ability to go directly to the Company President for safety issues that cannot be resolved on site.
Salary: $100k-$110k depending on experience, mileage paid for certain travel
Location: Syracuse, NY and Watertown, NY (Field project position)
Shift: Some Shift work, 40–50-hour work week
• Meet requirements of EM385-1-1, 01.A.17 (attached)
• 30-Hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Class
• Current First Aid and CPR Training/AED
• Five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction or managing general or industry construction (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls)
• Maintained experience through having taken 24 hours of documented formal or on-line safety and health related coursework in the past three years. The training must be applicable to the work being performed on the contract
• SSHO shall be able to demonstrate training in the following areas: personal protective equipment and clothing to include selection, use and maintenance; hazard communication; excavation; scaffolding; fall protection; confined space; and health hazard recognition.
• Assist in the preparation of the site specific safety plan/Accident Prevention Plan (APP)
• Prepare Activity Hazard Analysis for each definable feature of work
• Conduct safety indoctrination for all site workers and visitors
• Ensure that SAI forces and subcontractor personnel and complying with the APP
• Ensure required training and competent persons are available for each work activity
• Ensure proper PPE is in use
• Perform daily site safety inspections and document findings
• Coordinate with Corps of Engineers personnel related to safety issues
• Perform site accident investigations, complete accident reporting
• Participate in Preparatory and initial QC meetings related to safety review
• Participate in SAI Tool Box safety meetings, ensure subcontractors are conducting safety meetings. Provide documentation as required
• Maintain safety deficiency log and track deficiency resolution
• Primarily Federal DOD projects
• Projects range from a few million to $40+ million
