Shipping and Receiving Technician

About the Role LM Gill Welding is a long-standing defense manufacturing supplier supporting the U.S. Navy and maritime industrial base. We are hiring a Shipping and Receiving professional to ensure smooth movement of materials throughout the facility. This role supports production by managing incoming and outgoing goods, maintaining lot traceability, preparing shipments, and keeping the warehouse organized and compliant with internal and customer requirements.
What You Will Do
- Receiving
- Compare delivery documentation to purchase orders.
- Verify deliveries for accuracy, compliance, and physical condition.
- Enter receiving data in Epicor and assign items to correct warehouse locations.
- Unpack, label, and rack materials in designated safe and visible locations.
- Partner with Quality Control to inspect incoming components.
- Ensure inspection status is clearly identified on all received items.
- Maintain lot traceability and manage receiving documentation.
- Process material returns as needed. • Keep the receiving area clean and organized.
- Work with Purchasing to resolve material certification or vendor documentation issues
- Shipping
- Manage the shipping Gemba board and understand job status and required ship dates.
- Coordinate with Planning to determine weekly shipping priorities.
- Schedule freight pickups and ensure delivery vehicles are ready for outgoing shipments.
- Prepare all shipping documentation, including packing slips and advanced shipping notices (ASNs).
- Build crates and packages according to customer specifications.
- Maintain inventory of packaging materials and store them appropriately.
- Keep the shipping and packaging area clean and organized.
- Work closely with QC and Planning to confirm materials are ready for shipment.
- Warehouse
- Maintain accurate material identification and safe placement on racks and pallets.
- Operate forklifts and pallet trucks safely while maintaining OSHA certification.
- Conduct inventory audits as assigned.
- Release materials to jobs in Epicor using correct processes.
- Ensure cut or prepared materials are available ahead of production needs.
- Securely store WIP, customer-supplied materials, and ship-in-place items.
- Maintain part and material control on the floor with proper inventory practices.
Must-Have Experience
- Experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, or material handling in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain lot traceability.
- Ability to read shipping documents, packing lists, and purchase orders.
- Experience using ERP systems such as Epicor.
- Forklift certification or willingness to become certified.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle materials safely.
- U.S. citizenship required due to ITAR compliance.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Familiarity with defense or aerospace manufacturing.
- Experience building crates or packaging to customer specifications.
- Knowledge of quality inspection workflows.
