US Navy Mechanic with Industry Experience

EXPERIENCE

Maintenance Technician, Industrial Maintenance Company | 2017 - Present

  • Responsible for automation equipment servicing such as conveyors, robots, bonding presses, gate interlocks, PLCs and etc.
  • PLC knowledge and training on PLC300 Siemens also working with Allen Bradley.
  • Acted as Preventive Maintenance lead, ensuring proper operational performance for over 50 machines in the plant.
  • Electrical background in replacing and installing three phase motors, running new cables and replacing sensors with either shorts or a bad component.

Unlicensed Junior Engineer, United States Navy Military Sealift Command | 2015 - 2017

  • Hired on as an Unlicensed Junior Engineer to make rounds of engine room equipment recording temperatures, pressures, fuel meters, water meters and revolution counters. Part of a two-man watch team consisting of one Licensed Engineer and one Unlicensed Engineer on a three watch team rotation.
  • Consistently assisted with major projects and routine maintenance critical to ship's movement. Completed ability to follow directions or lead in individual preventive and corrective maintenance. Received good reviews from all prior ship's First Engineers.
  • Completed overhauls on Westphalia lube oil purifiers to rebuild the clutch and replace brake shoes and all O-rings inside the purifier bowl.
  • Assisted Second Engineers in multiple valve lash maintenance checks on MAN B&W Engines both 8 and 9 cylinders. In some cases, had to adjust rocker arms to match designed gap for proper intake and exhaust by way of a feeler gauge/blade.

Diesel Mechanic, Leading Aerospace and Defense Company | 2015

  • Worked on 2A and 2B MPDE Colt Pielstick engines removing the air start valves and recorded backlashes on three SSDG attached lube oil, salt water and jacket water pumps. After recording readings, removed the pumps and the cross drive to replace the old flex drive.
  • Took Fuel Injection Pumps out of SSDG engines to check injection timing from the camshaft. Replaced delivery valves and entire pumps, or just added/subtracted shims to make necessary adjustments to timing of fuel delivery to the cylinder ports.
  • Removed upper connecting rods by taking the inserts out from the piston to change bearings and replace main cap bearings due to wear and tear. Assisted in making the marks on the throws on the lower crankshafts of one and two SSDG to proceed with doing web deflections to check the play/amount of travel of the connecting rod on the lower crank.

Outside Machinist, Shipbuilding Company | 2014 - 2015

  • Spent three months onboard a non-commissioned vessel making preparations for future Sea Trials.
  • Assisted in drilling, reaming, honing and spot facing of more than seven holes for shaft alley Line Shaft Bearings. Also an essential crew member in the thorough restoration inside four Turbines.

Engine Machinist / Repair Parts Program Representative, United States Navy | 2011 - 2014

  • Served four years in the Engineering Department of a Dock Landing ship. Trained five junior engineers on the operation and maintenance of ship service diesel generators and associated equipment.
  • Ordered all repair and replacement parts and supplies for Auxiliary Machinery Room #2.
  • Integrally involved in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of diverse machinery room equipment such as fire pumps, jacket water pumps, ASW pumps, valves, water tight doors, low pressure air compressors, replacement of mechanical and hydraulic seals, removal of coupling bearings for replacement, etc.
  • Participated in preparations for diesel inspections.
  • Assisted in the hydrostatic testing of 100+ fire hoses.
  • Participated in diverse team projects to boost the morale and camaraderie of shipmates.
